Project 017 - Kitchen Cupboards
The furniture building enterprise continues. It all starts with a defined need for something, then a few sketches, then the making. Not much planning. Too stressful! Planning is needed for my day job. Hobbies are for relaxation.
This kitchen cupboard is a two-part project. There is a bottom cabinet and a top set of shelves. Nothing fancy.
All the wood is from various dumpster's around the city. Not for financial reasons but because you can find wood that is more interesting than wood you can buy.
A weird neighbor lady also provided some old boards from her basement. Let's not mention the posters of Xena Warrior Princess that adorned her basement walls. Not sure how I got out of there alive but I did.
Old wood has such amazing detail but can be a challenge to work with sometimes.
Not sure if you can see it in this picture but the door that is not yet attached has a broken glass pane. I dropped the bloody thing the other night and will now have to replace the glass.
Elise was happy to pose with the top part of the thing. Gives an idea of scale. I believe she is 38" tall. I think that is almost tall enough to go in the ball pool at IKEA with all the other kids.
The picture below is of the bottom part. I used my patented joinery method which I call "Pseudo Joinery". I'll go into more detail some other time. I moved it into the house a few weeks ago. I still need to attach some doors. The top part will sit on top of the counter.
